The fastest way to build your inventory: open a bin, snap a photo of what’s inside, and let AI do the rest.

How it works

1. Open a bin in binthere
2. Tap the camera button
3. Point your phone at the open bin and take a photo
4. Claude (Anthropic’s AI) analyzes the image and returns a list of items with names, descriptions, tags, and estimated values
5. You review the suggestions, edit anything that’s off, and save

You stay in control — nothing is added to your inventory until you confirm.

Tips for better AI results

• Good lighting — AI sees what you see. If it’s dark in the bin, the results are weaker.
• One layer at a time — for deep bins, dump the top layer on a table, photograph, then put it back and grab the next layer.
• Clear backgrounds — a cluttered garage floor behind the bin confuses the AI. Aim the camera straight down if you can.
• Separate similar items — five identical cables read better as “5 cables” when they’re fanned out than bundled.

Estimating values

binthere can estimate the market value of items for insurance, moves, or downsizing. You can do this:

• Per item — tap an item and tap Estimate value
• Bulk per bin — from a bin, tap Estimate all values
• Bulk per zone — same, from a zone

Values are estimates based on public pricing data. Always double-check before filing insurance claims.

What gets sent where

When you use AI features:

• Your photo + a short prompt is sent to the Anthropic API over HTTPS
• Anthropic doesn’t train on API data
• The response comes back and is saved to your inventory
• Photos are stored in your account (device + Supabase if sync is on)

Configuring the API key

By default, AI features use a managed key with fair-use limits. Heavy users can plug in their own Anthropic API key in Settings → AI Analysis — that key stays on your device and bills to your Anthropic account directly.
